To obtain a marriage license, both parties must be present and 18 years of age to apply. The Marion County Recorder of Deeds office takes marriage applications from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Proof of identification and age must be presented at the time of application. A valid driver’s license is sufficient. Those wishing to apply who are under 18 must have a custodial parent present with proper identification, to give consent. Applicants may not be related through and including first cousins. Proof of social security number is required at the time of application. A social security card and other valid document will be accepted. If previously married, the date the last marriage ended needs to be provided.
The license is valid for 30 days from issue date anywhere in the State of Missouri. There is no waiting period to obtain a license.
The license must be returned used or unused to the county of issuance. There are no refunds on unused, lost or destroyed licenses.
A $51 cash payment is payable at the time of application.
A Certified copy of the marriage license is $9. A plain copy is $2. Since the Social Security and Driver’s License offices require a Certified copy of the marriage license, we suggest prepaying the $9 fee at the time of application.
We also accept debit and/or credit cards. However, there will be a convenience fee charged by the bank for processing the transaction.
